The ideal facial profile is rooted in ancient Greek principles of aesthetic proportions, with the golden ratio of 1:1.618 often referenced as the foundation of beauty in art, sculpture, and human anatomy. This ratio serves as a guideline for facial balance, suggesting that the closer a profile aligns to these proportions, the more aesthetically pleasing it appears.
Key geometric indicators of profile aesthetics include:
- Hairline-to-upper eyelid distance should be 1.618 times the distance from the top of the upper eyebrow to the lower eyelid.
- Nasal radix-to-lip distance should be 1.618 times the distance from the centre of the lips to the chin.
- Upper-to-lower lip ratio should be 1:1.6, with the lower lip slightly larger than the upper.
- Lip positioning should fall behind a straight line from the pronasale to the pogonion (known as Rickett’s E-line).
- Facial convexity angle should be between 165-175 degrees with optimal anterior midface projection.

Treatment duration may vary based on the number of areas addressed but typically lasts up to 45 minutes.
The treatment involves injections into the skin, which may cause some discomfort. However, a topical local anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand to minimise any pain. The procedure is also relatively quick.
As with any injectable treatment, there may be some risk of swelling, bruising, or soreness at the injection sites. Dermal filler injections may also result in a sensation of ‘lumpiness’ where the product has been placed, though this is typically felt rather than visible. In cases of unnatural lumpiness or nodules, these can be reversed if necessary. While rare, there are small but significant risks of infection or vascular occlusion (vessel blockage); however, these complications can be promptly detected and treated.
The duration of results can vary from person to person, primarily influenced by factors such as lifestyle and genetics. However, in most cases, results typically last for approximately a year.
